Arch-Tempered Arkveld: Full Hunt Guide

Arch-Tempered Arkveld debuted in the Title Update 4.5 event quest "Freedom from Solitude" — a 10-star fight available once you reach Hunter Rank 100. The quest stays permanently in the event list, and clearing it unlocks the optional side quest "Proof of a Hero" for a special nameplate. AT Arkveld is a remixed encounter with a huge health pool, new Wylk-infused attacks, and faster wound regeneration. Beat him and you earn his gamma armour set, one of the strongest endgame sets in the game. A free challenge quest added 18 March 2026 also lets experienced hunters earn ranking-based pendants.

This guide breaks down his notable movesets, how to counter them, and the strategy to beat him cleanly and take an A rank in the free challenge. First, the basics.

Weak Points & Element

Arkveld's chainblade wings are the major weak points, with high hitzone values of 50 cut / 50 blunt / 45 shot as a baseline — and they climb even higher once he enters his dragon-infused state. The head and tail also have decent hitzones, but prioritise the chainblade wings whenever it is safe: breaking them causes a knockdown and prolongs his vulnerability. When the wings are out of reach, aim for the head or tail. You won't need Mind's Eye on your weapon; Weakness Exploit works wonders here.

Dragon is by far his biggest elemental weakness. A dragon-element weapon is very effective at draining the Wylk energy on his chainblades, which helps you cancel his Unleashed state — making Dragon the best element to bring.

Dragonblight & Blight Prevention

Arkveld's attacks inflict dragonblight, which nullifies your weapon's elemental damage and cancels elemental phials entirely.

  • Carry Nulberries to cure the blight instantly and keep your DPS up.
  • To become immune, you need at least 20 points of dragon resistance. Dragon Resistance Lv3 grants +20, and eating a meal at camp grants another +10 elemental resistance — a combined +30 dragon resistance.
  • Beware that many high-end sets have negative dragon resistance. Stacking pieces from the popular Gogmazios sets can drag you below 20 even with buffs, leaving you open to dragonblight.
  • In that case, run Blight Resistance Lv3 instead. It nullifies all elemental blights and does not depend on your resistance stat. It only comes from armour and talismans — reach Lv3 by combining gear like Arkvulcan Mail γ and Arkvulcan Greaves γ with a matching talisman, or use the Guardian Arkvulcan chest before you beat the arch-tempered version. This guarantees immunity even on armour with negative dragon resistance.

Recommended Skills & Items

His moveset hits extremely hard, so a few defensive picks smooth out your early attempts:

SkillWhy
Stun Resistance 3Prevents stun-locks so you can survive the first few kills while learning his tells.
Earplugs 2Enough to ignore all of AT Arkveld's roars and keep attacking.
Counterstrike / PartbreakerIf you're comfortable with perfect guard or dodge, skip Earplugs and slot Counterstrike for damage or Partbreaker to speed up wing breaks.

Beyond skills, bring Shock Traps and Pitfall Traps to control him and create openings, Flash Pods to cancel his long Unleashed-state combos, and set up a Pop-Up Camp in Area 13 — the closest to his spawn, cutting downtime between carts.

Notable Movesets

Safe to counter (moderate openings)

He inherits many core moves from his regular counterpart: head bump, wing dig, chainblade drag, grab attack, tail pierce, tail sweep, and dragon mines. These have moderate openings and follow-ups that chain into each other, but only deal moderate damage — so at full health it's usually safe to trade blows and counter each one.

Dangerous — do not punish

These leave very little opening and chain into high-damage combos. Refrain from attacking back, especially on heavy weapons.

  • Aerial Chain Sweep — Arkveld flies and sweeps the ground with a chainblade. Sprint perpendicular to the charge, or perfect block/dodge, then turn around for the follow-up from behind.
  • Heavy Chain Slam — with chainblades split, he raises one blade and slams it down in front; the two chains drop one after another with a small delay. Dodge toward the base of the wing or to the opposite side of the raised chain to avoid the double hitbox.
  • Chain Uppercut (new) — he rears back, swings a chainblade upward like an uppercut, and launches the blade skyward. Roll to the side as the chain launches, or block in place with a shield. It can come out on its own and very fast, so the cue takes time to learn.
  • Chain Hook-Slam (new) — he hooks a chainblade into the ground, pulls himself forward to close distance, then follows with a heavy slam from another wing. Roll toward his body as he pulls and you'll pass under the sweeping chain, or watch the hook and wait a beat to block/dodge the slam. Often transitions into the double-slam variant.

Safe to punish

  • Jumping Chain Slam — a variation of the double chain slam with a small hop before the slam; the hop grants extra reach and can catch you from far away. When he crouches slightly, roll sideways or raise your shield. The chain stays stuck briefly afterward, exposing a weak point — the best time to hit the chainblades and land a focus strike.
  • Wing Cleave — he jumps forward, spins both wings, and slashes the chains through the ground in a wide arc. The safe zone is near his legs or directly under his torso; time your roll to go under the sweeping wing.
  • Triple Chain Sweep Combo — inherited from the normal version, but faster here, and the third hit can randomly become one of his heavy attacks. Observe the moveset and only punish with heavy combos after the final heavy hit resolves.

Unleashed State

As the hunt goes on, AT Arkveld enters his new Unleashed state: wings glow white, wounds regenerate rapidly, and Wylk crystals spawn after many attacks.

  • Wylk Blast — a variation of the original dragon-blast. He marks several white impact points; after a short delay, white dragon energy erupts and spawns Wylk crystals. Hitting a crystal with an elemental slinger makes it explode — there's elemental slinger ammo scattered around the arena, so use it to damage him from safety.
  • Wylk Meteor Slam — his ultimate opener. He flies up, backflips, spreads his wings, and crashes down for multiple AoE explosions. Perfect block or dodge right after his chainblades fully spread, or better yet, flash him out of the sky with a Flash Pod.
  • Multi-Line Dragon Blast — usually follows the Meteor Slam. He fires multiple lines of dragon energy forward in a cone; after a pause they extend and explode. Dodge into the gaps, or run to his side to leave the danger zone entirely.
  • Charged Wylk Blast — his devastating ultimate. He charges Wylk energy and releases it as a shockwave, then jumps and detonates it in one massive explosion (the normal Charged Dragon Blast has three expanding blasts; the Wylk version is one big one). There's a safe spot close to his front, and his chainblades expose weak points for a focus strike.

His Unleashed state is extremely dangerous — once he starts the ultimate combo, expect several heavy attacks back to back. Even blocking can mean death without enough defensive skills, since he can drain your stamina with relentless hits. Priority: break the chainblades and knock him out of state. Use traps to lock him in place right before a break so chain damage lands efficiently.

Key Terms

Unleashed State — Arkveld's amped mode: white wings, rapid wound regen, and Wylk-crystal spawns. Break the chainblades or drain the Wylk to cancel it.

Wylk Crystals — spawned energy nodes that detonate when struck by elemental slinger ammo.

Dragonblight — a debuff that nullifies your weapon element and phials until cured. Prevent it with +20 dragon resistance or Blight Resistance Lv3.

RULE · Quick Takeaway — Bring Dragon, cure or prevent dragonblight, and prioritise the chainblade wings. Counter his moderate moves freely, respect the new Chain Uppercut and Hook-Slam, and shut down the Unleashed state with Flash Pods, traps, and fast wing breaks.
